Overview

The Senior Software Engineer will extend Circle's in-house blockchain systems infrastructure to support the tokenization of the world. In this role, you will build and own scalable microservices responsible for reliable and secure APIs that transfer value and assets across blockchain protocols as well as traditional banking protocols. You will collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to design, test, and shape Circle features, establish system design procedures, define testing standards, and maintain system health. Circle is hiring across multiple core engineering teams, including Liquidity, Developer Platform / Web3 Services, Circle Payments Network (CPN), Payments, Core Protocols (USDC & CCTP), Stablecoin Operations, and DeFi & Liquidity Partnerships. This is a fully remote role in the United States, with a strong preference for Pacific Time or West Coast overlap.

What you will do

  • Extend Circle's internal blockchain infrastructure to enable world-scale tokenization.
  • Build and own scalable microservices and publicly accessible APIs that simplify integration with complex payment systems.
  • Integrate platform services with leading banks, financial technologies, and multi-chain protocols to transfer assets seamlessly.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to design systems, document architecture procedures, establish quality standards, and troubleshoot system malfunctions.
  • Write infrastructure for high-performance payment experiences, including SQL and NoSQL data sources, messaging systems, and API layers.
  • Technically lead small engineering groups through architecture, system design, and delivery decisions.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience in object-oriented languages, with deep Java expertise preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience technically leading small teams of 2-4 engineers on architecture and system design.
  • Experience working with payment systems such as credit cards, bank transfers, or financial rails.
  • Broad understanding of RESTful API design and development principles.
  • Practical experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure.
  • Solid experience with SQL databases and data schema design.
  • Genuine interest in Web3 and crypto, which is a baseline requirement for Senior and Staff-level roles.
